We Know Howard County

Howard County sits directly north and west of our Crofton home base and we have been taking select jobs here long enough to know what each part of this county actually needs.

Columbia’s villages were built in phases across three decades and the electrical demands reflect that. Owen Brown, Wilde Lake, and Harper’s Choice carry 1970s and early 1980s homes running 100-amp panels that were spec’d for a household without central air, a home office, and two EV chargers. That combination is now standard in Columbia and those panels feel it. Long Reach and River Hill are newer but the Columbia tech-adjacent professional demographic drives some of the highest EV charger demand we see outside Anne Arundel County. We do the panel load assessment before we quote the charger installation. One visit, not two.

Ellicott City’s older neighborhoods off Frederick Road and the historic Old Ellicott City corridor surface code violations during real estate transactions at a rate that keeps licensed electricians busy. Howard County’s electrical code was updated in 2020, more recently than Anne Arundel County’s 2017 revision. That difference affects how permitted work is scoped and documented. It can also affect a sale if the work was done to the wrong county’s standard. We work to Howard County code on every job we take here.

Jessup sits on the Route 1 corridor between Howard and Anne Arundel counties and we know both sides of that line. The commercial and light industrial strip along Route 1 generates consistent panel upgrade and lighting installation calls. The residential neighborhoods feeding off that corridor carry a mix of housing stock with panel and wiring work we handle regularly.

Laurel’s commuter population heading to both Baltimore and Washington drives steady EV charger demand from homeowners who are making the switch and want the job done correctly the first time. We take those calls in Laurel regularly from homeowners who found us through our Anne Arundel County reputation and want the same standard applied to a Howard County address.

We take select jobs in Howard County because the right jobs here get the same preparation, the same licensed execution, and the same cleanup standard we hold across our primary market.

Howard County Communities We Serve

Howard County covers more than 250 square miles, from the dense planned villages of Columbia to the rural acreage out near Lisbon. Our crew travels from Crofton to take on select work across the county, with ZIP codes spanning 21029, 21036, 21042, 21043, 21044, 21045, 21046, 21075, 21090, and 21794 all within our extended service area.

Here is where we work most often:

Columbia The largest community in Howard County and one of the most varied. Columbia is split into ten planned villages, each with its own mix of original 1960s and 1970s homes, mid-century townhomes, and newer infill builds. Our work here ranges from panel upgrades in older Wilde Lake and Harper’s Choice homes to EV charger installs in River Hill and recessed lighting in the village centers.

Ellicott City The county seat, with a famously walkable historic main street and stone homes that date back to the early 1800s. Newer subdivisions ring the historic core. Our calls in Ellicott City often involve careful work in older properties, including knob-and-tube remediation, grounded outlet retrofits, and panel replacements where original service was never sized for modern loads.

Glenelg A rural community in western Howard County known for wooded estates and larger lots. Long driveways, detached garages, and well-and-septic properties shape the electrical work here, with whole-home generators, dedicated workshop circuits, and outdoor lighting topping the list of common jobs.

Jessup Sitting on the eastern edge of Howard County right along MD-32, Jessup blends industrial, commercial, and residential properties. We handle a mix of work here, from tenant fit-outs and warehouse lighting along the commercial corridors to residential panel upgrades and EV charger installs in neighborhoods near Route 175.

Elkridge One of the older communities in Howard County, with both established mid-century homes and rapidly growing newer developments along US-1. Older Elkridge properties tend to need updated service panels, while newer homes more often call us for smart lighting, hot tub circuits, and EV charger installs.

Lisbon The far western edge of Howard County, mostly rural with larger residential lots, farms, and country properties. Generator installs are the most common request from Lisbon homeowners, especially for properties on long power-line runs that lose service during storms.

Wherever you live in Howard County, we can usually plan a visit within the week. Call (443) 228-3469 for a free quote.

Yes. We pull every permit your job requires through the Howard County Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits, and we coordinate inspections so you do not have to. You can review county permitting rules on the Howard County DILP page. For homes inside the Historic Ellicott City district, additional approvals may apply, and we handle those when needed.

The Drive From Howard County to Our Crofton Office

Quick reference: 34.8 miles, about 38 minutes, mostly MD-32 East into MD-3 South.

Howard County sits west of our Crofton home base, so the trip down is the longest of any service area we cover. The good news: it is almost entirely highway, with one main route doing nearly all the work. If you know how to find MD-32 East, you are most of the way there.

From most points in Howard County, the first move is to get onto MD-32 East. MD-32 carries you across the county and through Howard’s eastern edge into Anne Arundel, covering about 28 miles before you reach the MD-3 South exit near Odenton. Take that exit and follow MD-3 South for another 6.5 miles. Look for Priest Bridge Drive on your right, just outside Crofton. We are in Suite 6 with parking right at the door.

Drive times vary across the county. Coming from Jessup or Elkridge cuts the trip down considerably since you are already close to MD-32 East. Columbia and Ellicott City add 10 to 15 minutes to the run. From Glenelg or Lisbon out near the western edge of the county, give yourself closer to an hour, especially in afternoon traffic.

If MD-32 is backed up, MD-100 East into MD-3 South is the most reliable alternate route, adding only a few minutes.
